Clutter is part of life, but having new cabinetry and an organized system is like being born again.  Our designers tackle every kitchen project with their eye on the prize, complete order with impeccable style.  It starts with the realization that we have a lot of stuff, and sometimes it gets in the way.  The secret is to have a place for all of it to go.

The first step is a palette cleanse. In this case the existing cabinets were in great shape so we helped the homeowners with a donation to Habitat for Humanity Restore Milwaukee.  On hand is our Project Manager Mike Jeffrey to uninstall the old and remodel the space before installing brand new cabinetry.

We will take you on a walk-through of your daily kitchen routine in order to analyze where you are wasting space and effort.  Also a realistic look at what you are storing, and why, will be helpful. Then we get to work on the cabinet layout.
before and after kitchen design drawings

This new design features an essential work triangle customized for easy flow, in, around and through the space.  We specify the type of cabinets needed and interior features to best store each kitchen’s content.

Fluidity is key; refrigerator to sink, pantry to countertop, squirrel watching window to water bowl . . . .

Kitchen cabinet design before and after

When it’s time for filling those cabinets, we encourage a new approach to the traditional system.  Consider grouping items you use most often together in an easy to access cabinet location.  Breakfast items like toaster, waffle maker, and fry pan should be near your breakfast prep area.   This could mean that your cookware is stored according to frequency of use rather than type.  Apply the same thought process to china and serving pieces.  Don’t waste valuable real estate on things that are only used occasionally.

Spices are the exception, they should be stored together on pull-out racks for easy assessment.

before and after cabinetry with countertop organization

KitchenAids and cookbooks go together like wine and cheese, so stage your countertop with attractive items that are useful in order to save cabinet space.

And remember that drawers offer the most organized easy to access storage.

new cabinery with large storage cabinets as island base

We like to group large cabinets together out of the work zone to accommodate medium appliances, serving pieces, Costo-sized supplies and that 50 lb bag of dog food.  Here we used double door base cabinets on the front side of an extra-large island for a furniture like appearance.

Finish off your new kitchen with an artistic backsplash.  This one from Bella Tile and Stone is the perfect backdrop for an orderly life.

So you want to remodel your kitchen, but hate the idea of wasting the existing cabinetry?  We have a solution for you!  Donate your old cabinets and usable appliances to a good cause like Habitat for Humanity!  We are at your service to make it happen with no extra effort when you do a kitchen or bath project with Geneva Cabinet Company!

Project Manager Mike Jeffrey meets with Jake Weiler from Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity Restore.

This location is one of many home improvement stores around the country that gladly accepts new or gently used furniture, appliances, cabinetry and other building components like windows and doors.  You donations are sold and the proceeds go to your local Habitat  effort to provide affordable housing.

For this project our team did a great job of deconstructing the beautiful cherry cabinetry that was unfortunately not working for the homeowners.  Our team had the cabinets, countertops and lighting ready to go for Habitat Milwaukee.  You can contact them directly to schedule your own pick up or ask for our help during the planning phase of your project.

In this case we are working with incredibly generous homeowners who even donated appliances that were like-new!  A special thank you to them and all of the volunteers at Habitat who made the entire process so rewarding!

In the meantime, our designer Joyce Zuelke, ckd has been hard at work designing the new kitchen layout.  With her trademark ingenuity, the new kitchen will feature a fresh open concept with increased storage and new Medallion Cabinetry.

Stay tuned for the big reveal, it will look a little something like this!

Our designers would love to help you with your kitchen, bath and storage improvements!  Our cabinetry is beautifully made in the USA to the highest standards.  Stop in to our Lake Geneva showroom to browse for ideas or call us today!

The key difference between an indoor kitchen and an outdoor kitchen is entertainment value.   Cooking outdoors turns everyday meal prep into a special occasion.  The variety of equipment for outdoor kitchens can take your weekend BBQ to the next level and provide culinary inspiration for entertaining family and friends.  Keep our design guidelines in mind and create the perfect outdoor cooking venue for the upcoming summer season.

Choose the location with convenience in mind.

The best location will blur the line between indoor and outdoor space allowing you to move easily without wasted footsteps back and forth. Certainly your outdoor kitchen will be used for entertaining, but remember that often you will want to cook outdoor and bring food indoors to dine.  When located close to your indoor kitchen, amenities for each area can be shared.   This could add up to a substantial savings on the overall project.

Design for functionality

Outdoor kitchens come in all shapes and sizes to go along with your space and budget.  The basic plan should provide an area for food prep, cooking and serving. Before creating your layout, locate the most direct access to gas, electric and water utilities.  This will cut down on the additional expense of running services further than necessary.

Material Selections

Choose the materials and finishes carefully with respect to your climate.  Cabinetry, countertops and appliances should be maintenance free.  Include stainless steel, teak and concrete for long lasting waterproof design.  We used Danver Stainless Steel Outdoor Kitchen Cabinetry in the featured projects to achieve high design, exceptional efficiency and lasting durability.

Beyond the Basics

The design options are endless, but once you cover your basic cooking functions it’s time to add even more convenience.  A sink in the outdoor kitchen makes clean-up a breeze and storage cabinetry will keep provisions at your fingertips.

Refrigeration is a plus for self-service beverages and holding perishables before cooking.

Specialized Cooking

The latest specialized outdoor kitchens feature artisan pizza ovens, slow-cook grills, smokers, and stoves with infra-red burners.  Any outdoor cooking enthusiast will love the restaurant quality options now available.

Protect yourself rain or shine

Protect yourself and your equipment with a little overhead coverage from a canopy or pergola.  Nothing will spoil the fun like the typical midwest storm blowing through.  Plan ahead so the party doesn’t become waterlogged or wither in the heat.   While you’re at it, add air circulation with ceiling fans and outdoor lighting so the good times don’t end at sundown.

Stop by our showroom and take a tour of this complete outdoor kitchen.   Designers Stephanie Nelson or Joyce Zuelke, ckd can answer your questions and walk you through the design of an outdoor kitchen where you can expand all of your cooking and entertaining possibilities.

When you are a designer the creative juices start flowing the moment your eyes open in the morning. From the outfits I lay out for myself and my three-year-old, to projects I’m designing for my clients.

A good designer doesn’t stop at just the basic cabinetry design. Just like my outfits don’t stop at just the basic clothing. Accessories, like the perfect jacket, jewelry, and shoes, play a big part in pulling the entire look together and sending a message about personal style.

The same thing applies to designing cabinetry in my clients’ homes. I start with a basic, functional plan and then work with the client to develop their individual style. Adding the countertops, lighting and plumbing fixtures is like layering on the accessories and “jewelry”. It begins to make a statement and bring personality to the design. It’s like taking a little black dress and adding either pearls and stilettos, or a jean jacket and cowboy boots. It’s all about individual style.

One tip I like to share with my clients is to add an unexpected detail or “secret treasure” like a flea market find or artistic piece that gives a punch of personality to the room. Price doesn’t matter on this one. It is all about including a piece that is a conversation starter. Think back to that little black dress and pairing that pearl necklace with those cowboy boots. Now you’re talking my language!

It’s time to enjoy the holiday party season . . . even when you’re the host! If your guests are like most, they will gather around your busy kitchen. Our advanced planning ideas will let you enjoy their company while you entertain stress-free for the holidays!

Our Top 10 Tips (and the estimated amount of time for planning)*

clear counter space Medallion Cabinetry Kitchen island#1 Clean clutter from countertops (1 hr to clean/1hr to decorate)

This is the most important step. Keep your countertops clutter-free in your beautiful holiday kitchen!  Pack away non-holiday decorative accessories. Keep your work surfaces free and ready for service at a moments notice. Baking, gift-wrapping, food preparation and food service all need this space. Keep countertop holiday décor minimal and use the vertical surfaces to hang wreaths, ornaments and other holiday sentiments from removable hooks.

holiday kitchen preparations clean out the refrigerator Plato cabinet refrigerator wood panel and drawers

#2 Refrigerator/Freezer purge (1hr)

What is lurking in the back of that refrigerator and freeze? Time to eat it or toss it. Make way for this seasons delectable treats. Holiday cookies can be prebaked and stored in your roomy freezer while prearranged serving trays will be wrapped and ready to go as soon as guests arrive.

holiday kitchen preparations clean the oven stove top and appliances Medallion cabinets

#3 Clean and shine cooking appliances! (2hrs)

Nothing feels as fresh as clean appliances! Run the oven cleaning cycle right now, don’t wait until its time to bake the rum cake. Do a deep cleaning for the dishwasher, microwave and even the toaster oven. While you’re at it, find the instruction manuals so you can master the defrost cycle and meat probe before you’re under pressure.

holiday kitchen preparations recipes cookware ready

#4 Find your favorite recipes and cookware (30 minutes or all night if you’re on Pinterest)

Pull out those family recipes and scan the Internet for new ideas. Print out, place bookmarks and make an extra copy for markup during cooking and shopping. Find all of the cookware you will use, sharpen the knives and find the turkey baster in advance. Devote a section of your clean countertop to the cooking essentials arranged by recipe so you can smoothly execute each move.

holiday kitchen preparations refresh spices and condiments Plato Woodworking cabinetry in white painted finish

#5 Inventory spices & condiments (15 minutes)

Now that you are recipes ready, maximize your cooking efforts with fresh ingredients. Spices do expire and so does that ketchup Uncle Marv wants to put on your prime rib roast . . . no judgment.

holiday kitchen preparations display cabinet serving dishes r

#6 Serving pieces front and center (15 minutes)

You know the fabulous platter you uncovered at an estate sale, where did that go? Find it now and place it, along with your other favorite serving pieces, within easy reach at the front of your cabinet. Wash, polish and ready for plating.

#6 1/2 Serving trays

Ditto, we just want to show you this cool tray storage cabinet.

holiday kitchen preparations kitchen desk converts to snack coffee bar or desert area

#7 Double duty kitchen zone (15 minutes)

Dedicate a specialty area of your kitchen to a new purpose for party time. The kitchen-planning desk becomes a perfect location for a hot chocolate, coffee or desert bar.

holiday kitchen preparations beverage bar cabinetry WoodMode cabinetry bar cabinet and serving storage with mini under counter refrigerator

#8 Beverage Bar (30 minutes)

Visibility will encourage your guests to help themselves and free you up for other hosting duties. Wash and dry wine and cocktail glasses with a lint free towel. Gather and conveniently arrange all ingredients for your featured cocktails.

holiday kitchen preparations Scotman ice maker refrigerator drawer built in cabinetry bar

#9 Artisan Ice – It’s a thing (5 Minutes and then maybe another 5 + 5 + 5 + 5)

Hardness, density, melt-time . . .  your drink connoisseurs will notice!   At the very least, empty the old ice from your bin. Take it to the next level by preparing your own cubes with boiled-distilled water or invest in one of the new generation ice-makers that will do all of the work for you.

holiday kitchen preparations pull out trash bin Plato Woodwork cabinetry double recycle cabinet door front with insert of woven fiber

#10 Last but not least-trash talk (15 minutes)

It may not be glamorous, but it needs more than a stick up deodorizer. Wash and disinfect trash and recycle containers to prevent unwelcome odors from polluting your holiday buffet. Pick up an extra large bin to place out of sight for the easy disposal of bulky items when you are entertaining a big group.

So there you have it!  Devote a couple of hours for a few days or one good Saturday and you’re ready!

Now enjoy the entire holiday season with no last minute hassles!
